Writing West Midlands

Writing West Midlands is the literature development agency for the West Midlands region. It is an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation that provides a wide range of services and events for writers and readers, including the Spark Young Writers programme, the Room 204 Writer Development scheme, the National Writers Conference and Birmingham Literature Festival.
National Centre for Writing

National Centre for Writing is a writing development agency based in Norwich UNESCO City of Literature, with a local, national and international footprint. NCW’s year-round programme offers opportunities to connect, learn and be inspired through innovative collaborations, events, festivals, residencies and activities for writers, literary translators and readers. From in person and online events at NCW’s Literature House to digital explorations and commissions in The Writing Hub, and in projects that support new voices and new stories, NCW helps create ways to respond to the rapidly changing world of writing.
Stephen Spender Trust

The Stephen Spender Trust (SST) is a charity inspired by the cultural activism of Stephen Spender, poet and champion of international literature. SST celebrates multilingualism and literary translation through a range of initiatives, including its annual poetry in translation prize for all ages, the Stephen Spender Prize, and its Creative Translation education programmes for young people and teachers across the UK.
The Emma Press

The Emma Press (EP) is an independent publishing house based in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham. It specialises in poetry, short-form prose and children’s books, with translations across all genres. The EP is passionate about publishing literature which is welcoming and accessible, to writers as well as readers, and runs open calls for submissions twice a year. In 2023 the EP was awarded funding from Arts Council England to create the Birmingham Editorial Readers Group, with further funding secured to run the group again in 2025, to allow local people the chance to participate in publishing processes.
